To be honest, we are running late on the figures again.

(Masa)
That’s a problem. How do you feel about cutting lunch hour to get them finished?

(Oscar)
I don’t think that’s a good plan. Our staff is already doing their best.

(Masa)
But we really have to make some adjustments.
Do you think we should change our accounting system?

(Oscar)
I think it will take a long time to train staff to use a new system,
but I do believe that it is smart to plan for the future.

(Masa)
Right, because planning now may save us a lot of time and money!

(Oscar)

TODAY’S PHRASES　(今日のフレーズ)

今回は、相手の考え・助言を聞きたいときに便利なフレーズをご紹介します

How do you feel about cutting lunch hour to get them finished?

How do you feel about ～?

「～をどう思いますか・感じますか？」

このフレーズは、あることについて相手がどう思うのか、どう感じているのかを聞きたいときに使える表現です。

aboutのうしろに相手の考えを聞きたいことを述べて“How do you feel about this plan?”のように表現します。

ちなみに、“How do you feel?”だけでは、相手の体調や気分を聞く意味合いになってしまいますのでご注意を。

・What are your thoughts on this matter?
・What are your views on this problem?

Do you think we should change our accounting system?

▼ Do you think I/we should ～?

「～した方がいいと思いますか？」

こちらのフレーズは自分（たち）があることをすべきか否か、相手の考えを聞きたいとき、助言を求めたいときに使える表現です。
“Should we change our accounting system?”と表現しても相手のアドバイスを伺うことはできますが、“Do you think” を添えることでやんわりとした聞き方をすることができます。

【日本語訳】

Masa：Oscar、売上報告書はどこまで進んでますか？

Oscar：正直に言うと、数値データがまた予定より遅れているんだ。

Masa：それは困りましたね。終わらせるためにもランチタイムを減らすのはどう思いますか？

Oscar：それはいい考えだとは思えないね。スタッフはすでに一所懸命やってくれてるよ。

Masa：ですが、明らかに多少の調整は必要ですよ。
経理システムを変えるべきだと思いますか？

Oscar：新しいシステムを使うには、スタッフのトレーニングに
長時間かかると思うけど、将来に備えておくのは賢明だと心底思うよ。

Masa：そうですね、今から画策しておけば、多くの時間と費用を抑えられるかもしれません。

Oscar：おそらくね。ところで、これが報告書の冒頭部分だよ。
