Last June 18, 2017, Father’s Day was celebrated in most parts of the world including in Japan (Chi Chi No Hi) and in my country, the Philippines.
To celebrate the occasion, we attended a special “family” reunion honoring the fathers in our family. We ate our fill and enjoyed the delicious food prepared by my cousin. The menu consisted of Pancit Malabon, Barbecued Pork, Lumpiang Shanghai, Dunkin Donuts and a variety of drinks.
Afterwards, we talked about the movies we watched recently like Wonder Woman, Despicable Me3 and Independence Day-Resurgence. Eventually, our topic of discussion got around to discussing movies about fathers. It was fun remembering and talking about movies that deal with fatherhood and how it was presented in varied ways.
We all agreed that the saddest movie about fatherhood was The Champ while the most dramatic was The Godfather. We all thought that Finding Nemo, Mrs. Doubtfire, and Father of the Bride were amusing yet touching movies since these depict the things a father would do to protect and be close to their children. Equally entertaining were Despicable Me, 3 Men and a Baby, and The Game Plan, which were all movies about being an “instant” father.
We were not able to decide what the best movie dealing with fatherhood is, but it was really interesting to hear the choices from each one of us and the reason for our choice.
In the end, we made a list of top 15 movies that we liked:
1. Finding Nemo
2. Mrs. Doubtfire
4. Father of the Bride
5. 3 Men and a Baby
6. Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
8. Despicable Me
9. The Champ
10. Star Wars: Return of the Jedi
11. Voltes V Movie
12. The Game Plan
13. Field of Dreams
14. Independence Day
15. The Godfather
Do you agree with our list? What about you? What is your favorite movie about fathers? Why?
