今回のテーマは「Phrasal Verbs（句動詞）」です。
Phrasal Verbs（句動詞）は「動詞 + α」のフレーズで、会話でよく使われる口語的な表現です。

Phrasal Verbs（句動詞）を知らないと文の意味を間違ってとらえてしまうこともありますので、まずは基本ルールを見てみましょう。また、今回はスケジュールを調整するときに使える句動詞を併せてご紹介します。

Phrasal Verbs (句動詞) 基本ルール

構成 / 働き / 意味

・構成　： [ 基本動詞 + 副詞 ] または [ 基本動詞 +（副詞）+ 前置詞 ]
・働き　： 句動詞全体で動詞の働きをする
・意味　： 基本動詞の本来の意味とは異なる意味を持つ

Phrasal Verbs (句動詞) の種類

１．自動詞（目的語を取らない）と同じ使い方をするもの
（例） The growth in sales is starting to level off.（level off： 横ばい状態になる）　　

２．他動詞（目的語が必要）と同じ使い方をするもの

・目的語をはさんで分離できるもの
（例） Could you turn on the light? / Could you turn the light on?
（turn on: ～をオンにする・作動させる ※上記どちらもOK）

・目的語をはさんで分離できないもの
（例）Can you deal with this problem?（deal with： ～に対応する）　　

スケジュール調整に便利なPhrasal Verbs (句動詞)

（状況）会議の予定を調整する + 付随するやり取り

・I’ll set up a meeting next week.
（set up：～を設定する）
・I’d like you to take part in the next meeting.
（take part in：～に参加する）
・It depends on the time.
（depend on：～による・次第である）
・Can we push the meeting back by an hour?
（push back：～を遅らせる）
・Can we move up the meeitng by two hours?
（move up：～を早める）
・Can we put the meeting off till tomorrow?
（put off：～を延期する）　
・Something has come up, so I can’t attend the meeting.
（come up：発生する）
・We have to call off the meeting due to the weather.
（call off：～を取りやめる）
・I’m looking forward to seeing you at the meeting.
（look forward to：～を楽しみにする）
